Under the white heat of a Mediterranean sun, 1930s Spain flares into civil war. As violence escalates, Sandro Risco Canovas, a student in Barcelona, is blacklisted. Hunted by the policia he seeks refuge with Jorge, a wounded zealot, and Teresa, a revolutionary spy. Sandro flees the city posing as a pilgrim in priest's robes, his bicycle Libertad (Sancho Panza to his Don Quixote) guiding him through a surreal cast of picaresque characters.
