This is a book about the fifty films that have played an important part in my life, from as far back as the early forties to the present day. Each film is special to me and has therefore ended up of my list of fifty 'favourites'. 'Favourites' though is a very fluid term and what I might include on my list today, might not be the list I make tomorrow. I have spent a long time choosing, researching and reflecting on these films, but this book is not about me; it is about the movies and their influence on our lives as individuals and the influence they have on society.
It has been a pleasure to write; I have got to see films that I haven't seen in a long time and yet always crop up in any conversation I have about the movies.
I hope it does the same for you. You don't have to like my choices or agree with my opinions, just so long as it makes you think about those movies you love.
