Gross fest of infinite proportions

Leave it to Edward Lee to write something that is both funny and scary and beyond addictive to read once the book is open. The writing style involved wit and charm and totally fascinating scientific jargon that I always enjoy learning something from as he made a tale that was gross enough to raise a few hairs and a tale which made me stay up reading until I was dead tired and count even think of going to work the next day but it was all worth it. Pritchard's Key was a seemingly deserted lush tropical island right off the coast of Florida. It was the perfect place for polychaetologists such as Nora and Loren who spend their entire academic lives studying segmented worms to take a National Geographic photographer Annabelle for a rare photo shoot revolving around the very rare bristle worm. The island was a non operating military reservation with running water, electricity and barracks, the perfect place to relax, catch a tan and photographs some of nature's most beautiful creations but then there was something else, something unnatural and dangerous, something beyond the crews wildest nightmares that slithered in the shadows and wasted no time... Along with the scientist and the photographer came Trent, the army warrant officer who was in charge of keeping them safe and because he was responsible for checking in on the island every month to make sure it was in tact as it was closed off to the population. Right off the bat Nora and Annabelle hated each other, the scientist was tall and thin, pale with frizzy hair while Annabelle was a blonde bombshell with stellar physique that turned heads and enjoyed playing dumb to get all the male attention. It was staggering how Edward Lee wrote both of the characters are they were as opposite as night and day and the bickering and the fighting was one of the best parts of the book. The comments were clever and hilarious while an ominous and dreadful atmosphere started to spread. Pretty soon after getting to the island strange things began to happen as the crew started to notice some unusual behavior involving species of worms and insects they have never seen before. The whole island seemed to be crawling with yellow ova which are mobile worm carrier attacking fish and crustaceans in the water and mammals on land What the parasites did to the human hosts was unimaginable but it only made the mystery of their origins deeper as figures clad all in black ran around the island watching everyone form the shadows. The gore and the disgusting mutations happening to human victims who seem unaware at first of what was going on were pretty fascinating. The people in the book turned out to be the lab mice and only the ending, glorious and imaginative brought with it the relief and the horrendous answer to al the questions raised along the way. Great tale that really sucked me in and had me hooked until I finished the last page and sat back amused. Now I can't wait to read more of Lee, for he always surprised with his

The Early Worm Gets the Bird

A horrifying development is occurring on a small island off the coast of Florida. Due to reefs and rocks the island is only accessible by boat at the high tide. But inaccessibility makes it a target for many. In a short period of time the island is visited by some students looking for a secluded party location, some local poachers, a photographic team from National Geographic, and a military conducting secret experiments. The National Geographic team is looking to photograph the scarlet bristleworm and therefore has a couple of worm experts. But soon their talents are put to the test when it seems that the island is home to some completely unknown species of worm. Soon the reality of what is occurring on the island begins to be known. These worms are very fast-growing and seem to be able to infect a large number of species. Soon all anyone is really concerned with (other than the military) is being to get off the island before they become horrible infected. This is a creepy story charged with large doses of sexuality but not a whole lot of gore. The big mystery is figuring out why the military is trying to create these nasty creatures and just how in control they really are. Along the way we learn a whole lot of secrets as everyone has at least one. The story takes some unexpected turns but they are very effective. One of the better worm books I have read. If you like man versus nature gone wild stories then this one should fit the bill. Check it out.

Lee is the master!

As a previous reviewer said, people either love Lee's hardcore horror, or they hate it. I for one, love it! Slither is one of Lee's better books - it has sex, violence and suspense. This book was a fast read, and had a couple of good twists at the end. This is definitely a must-have for any fan of horror books.

You Either Love Lee Or You Hate Him! I Love Him(As A Writer That Is)!!!

Where do I begin with an Edward Lee review? As most all horror readers know, Edward Lee is known for his hardcore horror. That said, its pitiful to see the terrible reviews he gets by the same people who continue to read his work. I don't want to get off on a rant here, but if you don't like his style of writing, then don't read him. As I mentioned you either love him or hate him. Sure Ed Lee's gonna have blood, sex, violence, gore and lightning fast pacing. But this is what makes him so fun to read. He can plot with the best of them and his stories are always original and often funny. This story, Slither, is no different. Ed Lee is the only author I know of that I can sit down and read his books from cover to cover in one sitting. I won't tell you all about Slither, but know that if you want a fast pace read, with lots twists and turns, and all that blood, sex and gore stuff then you need to grab this one and read it. It's a blast! Basically, the story revolves around a couple of scientists and an army lieutenant taking a blond, big breasted National Geographic photographer bimbo to a deserted ex-military island(okay not so deserted afterall) to photograph a rare kind of worm and all hell breaks loose with these slithering creatures.....well I won't tell you anything else. Hopefully, I've piqued your interest so that you'll go out buy Ed's book and make him more of a household name. You know, it's funny I can sit down and read a Stephen King or Dean Koontz book and after I'm done reading, most of the time I'm either disappointed with the story or it's just wasn't that fun. Don't get me wrong, I think both are great writers, but I also don't think they're consistent on a regular basis like Lee. I have yet to read a Lee novel I didn't like. Sure they may not win a Stoker, but they're fun reads. Isn't that what reading is all about folks? Personally I think King and Koontz are overrated. Oh no, I said the bad words......Overrated. I feel a stoning coming from King and Koontz fans for that tarnish. The last King book I read that I thought was really good was Bag of Bones. Bottom line: You're not likely to find a more talented writer than Edward Lee, who can keep your attention through the whole book without making you doze off and can keep pumping out quality work on a continual basis. As far as I'm concerned, Lee is the Master! Lastly, not that you'll ever read this review, but thanks Ed for personalizing my limited ed. of Slither for me. I really did enjoy your island! You keep spinning those tales and I'll keep burning my eyes into the wee hours of the morning reading them. A+
