This is one of the first books I read for Catherine Cookson. I read it about 10 years ago & it still plays in my mind sometimes. That is why I gave it a five star. Not many books are that memorable. The story basically for me is about how gossip starts & develops, eventually to be believed by the ones who started it. The way Ms. Cookson wove this story is amazing.I think this is one of Ms. Cookson's best books. Read it & enjoy.
