In Sleep Like a Baby, the next installment of the #1 New York Times Bestselling Charlaine Harris's Aurora Teagarden series, Robin and Aurora have finally begun their adventure in parenting. With... This description may be from another edition of this product.
To establish my credentials, I've purchased & read everything Ms. Harris has written, several books more than once. I've read all the Aurora Teagarden books and enjoyed them and their different contexts. But finishing this was a slog. The new-mother Aurora is not only worn out but laid low with the flu. Her nanny disappears. A corpse appears in the backyard. In previous books, our heroine would now solve the case. But she is not only exhausted but is in a perpetual snit about everything, as in *everything*. Every single person with whom she comes into contact comes close to getting their head chewed off. Every law enforcement officer in town gets on her bad side and there is a continual cycle of exasperation, scowling and phone calls ending abruptly. Two African American characters come in for a lot of flak, which is unusual for Ms. Harris.
All in all, I could not wait for this to limp to a close. And then Aurora announces that maybe another kid in on the cards. I suspect that is why the series had to end: everyone got together and ran her out of town.
