As the 'plane was about to lift off, a line sprang out of the water as if by magic. The specs on the far shore tumbled over one another, frantically getting clear. The large drift log leaped into the air. Simultaneously the speeding aircraft just skimming the water tilted, then with a smart slap landed on its back in the surf. The motor gagged to a stop. They heard the purr of a diesel motor. A fishing vessel pulled around the point and made for the overturned 'plane. George and his group broke from their trance, scrambled down onto the beach, and ran along toward the scene of the action. They came along on time to assist a valiant swimmer, who had somehow managed to escape the 'plane undetected. Strangely enough, he seemed reluctant about accepting their assistance.
