Skin Heads

Skinheads When Dan moved to Boulder, CO Laurel immediately fell in love with him. They did everything together. Then Dan didn't make it on to the swim team. He became depressed. To make matters worse, he couldn't find a job. On Halloween night at the annual mall Crawl, Dan discovered the Skinheads. It seemed like they were the solution to his problems. He decided to join them. Skinheads are a gang of white extremists. They discriminate against Jews, Blacks, Asians, etc. Skinheads wear all black with steel-toed boots and shave their heads. When Laurel noticed Dan's change she was horrified. Everybody knew and was afraid of the Skinheads. Laurel especially, because she had two Asian adopted siblings. She knew what the Skinheads were capable of and did everything in her power to protect her siblings. Does she succeed? Read Skin Deep by Lois Ruby to find out. I really liked this book because it really taught me a lesson. It gave lots of detail and kept me reading. There were lots of stories within the story and surprises around every corner.

Deeply Involved

I've read this book more than once and I still think it is excellent. Racism is violence, and it is something we have to deal with every day; I feel it is an important issue. This novel was amazing at portraying the actions, words and feelings of its characters in a way that was interesting to read, yet keeping a very close relationship with reality. This book is gripping, and it makes you think after you have put it down for the last time. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys books with a little of everything, and a lot of truth.

You MUST read this book

Living in Australia, the violence of racism that occurs in this book doesn't really happen here. But racism will occur anywhere where there is prejudice and ignorance, and this book exemplifies that fact. I thought this was so good i even gave it to my TEACHER to read!

Beautifully done

Skin Deep was so informational. It shows a veiw from each side. And that hate never wins.

A Very realistic book about teens

This book was wonderfully written on a very controversal subject. It's about Dan a very confused teen going through a hate period and blames every minority for his problems. Laurel is his girlfriend who is watching the change from a distance ever since he told her to back off. I find it somewhat reflecting a lot of my friends lives. It is very realisticly written unlike most teen books. I gave it an A+
