SKETCHBOOK is a collection of one hundred and one drawings presented in full page format without distracting text and page numbers. Each plate is one sided so that no shadow image shows from the back. The book also contains a catalog with a description and a thumbnail image of each drawing. All drawings were made by the author on location, i.e., plein air, at a rate of two per day using the same drawing tools throughout the series, namely a mechanical pencil loaded with 0.5 mm HB lead and a pointed eraser for highlighting. Nocturnes were drawn using the light available at the scene without lighting the sketchbook artificially. All drawings are from around Carey, a tiny town in the Texas Panhandle with one paved T-intersection and some dirt roads. Once a thriving farm community, Carey was located on the highway and had several businesses, three churches, a railroad station, a post office, and a school. Carey's claim to fame came in 1937 when the school won the state championship in basketball.
