A wonderful commentary on the sociology of an island community, interwoven into a very intriguing story. Integration of mysticism. Intelligently humorous! Finished in two days...because I had to go to work. It will be enjoyed by islanders and mainlanders alike! Read and wonder...

The best (and worst) of island living

Ever wonder what it would be like to live on an island? An island, that is, that's not too far from the big city, composed of a small community of people like yourself who want to escape from it all yet have civilization's amenities and contacts within reach? Sounds idyllic, doesn't it! Robert Miskimon's new novel, Skagit, is a must-read for those of us who have such fantasies. It provides a good look at what we might be tempted to leap into. Skagit has a solid realistic plot line and fascinating misfit characters who uncomfortably unite in their desperate effort to keep the villain (encroaching civilization in the form of a bridge from the city to the island) away. What happens to the effort, who sells out, and who rises from the grave to save the island, will keep you reading all night.

An informative, great read

Skagit is an exciting novel of political intrigue set on a Puget Sound island where environmentalists are trying to to save their hometown from developers. It's a story that should resonate with people who care about fighting the good fight against developmental blight. Besides being a good yarn, it could serve as a case history for anyone interested in getting involved in grass roots political action. It's far from being a political tract, though. Romance, mystery, and the supernatural are all part of the mix that makes this a great read. It kept me thinking long after I'd finished turning the pages.
