Six inches. That is the distance between the twin beds in the Richmond Hill house where Ezekiel and Elijah Doodnauth share a room, a face, and a childhood shaped by the things their family does not say.
Raised by their grandmother Ajee in the heart of the Guyanese diaspora in Queens, the twins grew up on Liberty Avenue - where the church pews fill every Sunday, where the seen and the unseen coexist without apology, and where grief is buried under work and prayer and food prepared before dawn. Their mother died giving birth to them. Their father never recovered.
