A gripping tale with a sharp portrait of high-class Indian society,and its points of contact with the low class. A focus on the role of women in it. The author has an eye for detail, and she competes well with the Victorian British novelist William Makepiece Thackaray, in her capture of the rich and the flambouyant! An speedy, and very intense, read.
