Former Bakery Owner Recomends

The folks who complain about too much fat in Sister Shuberts recipes are used to the lean, dry and boring breads made by most bakeries and grocery stores. They must think that rice cakes taste wonderful. They most assureadly think that a store brand of cheap slimy margarine tastes as good as real grade A butter. The formula's used by bakeries and frozen dough suppliers are cheap, lean and are formulated with freezing, shipping and long term storage as priorities, omiting taste, texture and flavor. Sister Shubert has not compromised on taste or texture when creating her recipes for this book nor her store bought products. The taste is evident in both. If you are concerned about fat then you shouldn't be eating bread at all because of carbs. ITs that simple. Fat is flavor. There is no substitute for quality. Cut back on the quantity of products you consume, not the quality. Life is to short to accept average tasting food.

Best "all-around" book on bread that I own

This little book is an absolute gem for recipes and is great for anyone from a beginner to an experienced baker. Her baking tips are all "keepers", as are her recipes. The Parkerhouse rolls have to be tasted to be believed! The cinnamon rolls are out of this world... I made them for Christmas morning. The "fly off the plate pancakes" really do fly off the plate....into your family's mouth! Her directions are well-written, and she goes so far beyond what many books do, as far as photos AND giving freezing/reheating directions, and loads of tips. Her information is wonderfully complete and I have enjoyed using this book tremendously. Everything that I've made from this cookbook my family has loved, as have many friends. I checked your website to see if you carried this, as I bought my copy in the States, and friends wanted to know where to get it!

A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR DEDICATED BAKERS.

From A (Angel Biscuits) to Z (Spiced Zucchini Bread), "Sister Schubert's Secret Bread Recipes" is a top quality book that informs in a down-to-earth entertaining style. It is truly a book of tried and true delicious bread recipes of all sorts to cherish and pass on to future generations of your family. While living in San Antonio, Texas, Sister Schubert's sister, Charlotte, was my next door neighbor. Following trips to Alabama, Charlotte would bring back some of Sister Schubert's rolls and share with me. The words, "so light they float off the plate" always came to mind. I always think of those rolls as having a lyrical quality; rather like the "Amazing Grace" of breads. The spectacular photographs of some of the various bread offerings in the book make them look good enough to pluck right off the pages and eat; especially since each bread is nestled on some exquisite dish surrounded by unique assortments of either flowers, plants, herbs, fruits, other interesting containers, or objets d'art. One of my favorite pictures is on page 94. Hot Cross Buns rest on a lovely plate with a background of tulips and two darling porcelain bunnies. And on page 93 a picture of Holiday Strudel makes you almost hear Santa approaching hoping for a sip of that coffee waiting in its white china, gold-rimmed cup and a goodly bite of that scrumptious looking pastry. (recipe on page 82) I will be so happy when Sister Schubert's rolls head west to California!!! Instead of another gold rush, we could have a roll rush out here.

This cookbook is a really great "read!"

Truly, my copy of this cookbook is floured, greased and ready for the oven...I use it all the time, but I like to just sit and look through it too. The photos are super, and the "secrets" are definitely keepers for any kitchen. The best coffee cakes and muffins too, and you've got to cook Sister's pancakes to believe something so easy is so good...it's my favorite cookbook.

You can't live without this!

I bought this book thinking it would be like all the other cookbooks -- just a shelf filler. I have to tell you that this has the BEST and EASIEST rolls. They are consistently a hit whether I am making them for a get together at my house or for a fundraising dinner. If you have been looking for a really good roll recipe, you need to get this book and make the Parkerhouse Rolls. They are beyond compare!
