Wonderful saga and historically correct. Follow this family through a true dipiction of deep south roots. I would highly recommend Sipsey to anyone loving good southern fiction
An Epic Tale of Backwoods Alabama
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
Sipsey is a well-written, attention-keeping, place-centered epic of the James Michener genre. The place, Fayette County, Alabama on the Sipsey River, is not so well-known, but the characters as just as compelling as found in any other. Blakeney clearly knows the territory. He begins gathering his characters in precolonial America and follows them to their impact on the lovely, fertile woods of northwest Alabama. Slavery; backwoods lawlessness; irrational, unconditional love of a piece of land; and the flow of history sweep the characters along until they merge into the present-day South. This book is not widely promoted or known due to being published by a small publisher, but it is as good or better than many lining the shelves of your local bookstore.
