The murder of a beautiful actress sets the stage for a puzzling mystery combined with escalating action, as master criminologist Christopher Hand and his sidekick-narrator Ralph Clark confront a shadowy criminal gang. The villains' motivation for targeting a wealthy businessman remains murky as Hand and Clark attempt to sort through a range of suspicious characters, until a showdown on a 'haunted island' off the coast of Maine brings the adventure to a dangerous climax.
