Intelligent, thought-provoking AND entertaining!

I came across "Singular Women" at a campus bookstand in '88 after a particularly gruelling Physics final. It was the BEST form of relaxation I could have had! Many years later, I STILL enjoy this story of four thirtysomething women, college buddies who continue to meet weekly in spite of busy lives. Of the quartet Rosemarie is a homemaker a la Martha Stewart, wife and mom while the other three are reluctantly single despite being both successful and attractive. This is the story of the "husband hunting" contest set up by well-meaning Rosemarie to nudge her single friends towards the altar, and it's surprising consequences. The story proceeds at an exciting pace with plenty of glamor, excitement and insight thrown in. It quickly takes very unexpected turns that leaves one with a delicious sense of anticipation. Not only is the story line a refreshing change from the usual trite fiction targeted at women, but the book is wonderfully written and the characters and situations eminently REAL. Amazingly, there is not a jarring or tedious line in this book. Would like some light reading that entertains without insulting your intelligence? Read this !!
