"Sing the Fading Day" Every story has a beginning. This is the start of my tale - a truthful tall tale of an improbable but otherwise ordinary life. It's not a true autobiography. Instead, it sheds light on extraordinary moments, those parts of my life touched by high strangeness. These events are real, yet I've compartmentalized them, transforming memory into storytelling. The stories I have shared with friends and family could be believed or dismissed, with little impact on me. The conversations within these pages are contextually correct to the best of my recollection. To respect privacy, I have changed the names of those involved, even though many played a personal role. Many have extraordinary stories of their own. One day, my daughter asked, "Are the crazy stories you've told us real?" I answered yes. "I knew it," she said. "Then Dad, you have to write it down." The process was excruciating. These narratives served as a construct, separating me from the fear and terror of the events I endured. They existed outside of time - no clear before or after. Initially, I wrote in the first person, recalling the events' context. It left me sick and sleep-deprived. Memories poured forth like a torrent once the gate was opened. I took a break for a few months, then revisited the draft. This time, I chose the third person, distancing it from myself. The result was an e-book, self-published but dreadful - a fifties sci-fi novel in disguise. . Now, having read that failed draft several times, I pulled down the e-book and rewrote the book. "Sing the Fading Day," in my own voice. I am no closer to understanding the events described within these pages. Their meaning remains elusive - neither profound, mundane, nor delusional. Ken Lehnig
