The National Meteorological Directorate (DMN) has a network of 7 C-band Doppler weather radars. These radars can locate precipitation and measure its intensity in real time. In addition to precipitation, the Doppler weather radars can measure the wind in precipitating areas. Unfortunately, radar data are affected by several sources of error. Among these errors is the problem of fixed obstacles that block the propagation of the transmitted radar signal to longer distances, such as mountains, telecommunication towers, forests, buildings, etc., which would be in the vicinity of the radar.
