Like their Western and Chinese counterparts, Native Americans developed an astrological system for understanding the world and envisioning harmony in the universe. Based on animals and clans--and with corresponding trees, stones, and colors--it's broken into 12 moons similar to the 12 signs in Western astrology. In fascinating detail, and with magnificent artwork throughout, this new entry in the Simply series explores an exciting and little known aspect of Native culture. In addition to providing analyses of all the signs, symbols, and seasonal associations, there are illuminating charts, explanations of the medicine wheel, and practical ideas for using Native astrology as an oracle.
There are many "Astrology" books out there that attempt to instruct readers before fully understanding the *nature* of any kind of Astrological measurement - this is one of them. This book uses the gregorian calendar to divide up the year into 12 types of people, but the author does not explain that calendars are not tied to actual celestial movements; only loosely are the two connected. True Astrology uses real Astrological measurements, like how the western Zodiac uses the earth's relationship with the Sun to measure it's signs. That is why a time of birth is important to measure exactly what sign one is, not just a callendrical date. While it is possible to identify with descriptions of one's self with these types of books, it is not truly astrological.
