I picked this up by chance, it was on a remainder table at a local art bookstore, on a whim. I guess I liked the format as it was offbeat. I reviewed that dvd earlier on the Simply Karate book/dvd combo. It is the same dvd and a must buy for new Kyokushin students. It is a 90 minute, or so, class in the basic strikes of Kyokushin karate. The workout will get a sweat going, and will help you work on your basics. The only downside is that self-defense techniques shown, almost as an afterthought, seem a bit stilted and complex for my taste. There is no reason why I couldn't just do all my basics in the morning, but I am not a morning person, so I find I get a lot more done if I slip in this dvd and let this very fit Aussie karateka set the tempo. The price in incredible as it seems to be a remainder. You can pay a lot more, and get a lot less, than what you get from Simply Karate when you compare it to the avalanche of martial art dvds out there. The dvd looks like it was shot outside in Queensland judging from the tropical foliage in the background. Much nicer than the usual cheap sound stage you see in exercise videos. Buy this if you are looking for a straight ahead karate exercise workout, or looking for a Kyokushin kihon guide. The names for all the moves are presented in both English and Japanese, another nice touch. Osu.
