Book Overview

The exhausting pace of many who run the Christian race these days leaves them feeling frenzied and frazzled. But is that really the life promised by the Prince of Peace? Is that what Jesus meant when He said, "I will give you rest"? Do you sometimes feel that you're trapped in some sort of Christianized rat race? Charles Swindoll understands. "Everything in life has gotten complicated, including a life of faith," he writes. "Somehow the complications of life in general have bled into our walk of faith and messed up everything." Simple Faith invites you to free yourself from the tedious demands of the "Christian" obstacle course and return to the life of hope, grace, and rest that Christ has always offered. Dispelling the myth that maturity means bowing to the never-ending requirements of rule-oriented religion, Swindoll calls you back to the simplicity of the Sermon on the Mount. Return to the only life worth living -- a life of simple faith. Book jacket.

One of the best books I've ever read.

I picked up this book not long after I made the decision to step out of the rat race for the rest of my life, to return to the way I once lived, namely simple. I've listened to Swindoll for years and he has, hands down, been the most influential man in my life so understand that I'm already biased strongly in his favor. I've been through a lot of Chuck's studies and books. I think this was the book that best captured Swindoll's perspective on life and the Christian faith. It was the book that cemented my desire that God build me into the kind of man Swindoll is. This is one book that I think every believer ought to read. It reminds the reader that faith really is a simple matter. After five years of seminary, I fully understand man's propensity for making faith into something way more complicated than God intended. Reading Simple Faith was like taking a spiritual bath. It reminded me the value of simplicity, child-like simplicity in my relationship with Christ. It made me feel like a kid again. No baggage, no complicated arguments, just faith. I've read this book several times since it was first published and I'll no doubt read it again. Simply put, this book still holds the #1 or #2 spot on my all-time list of most helpful books ever read, including all of my books for seminary. I can't give this book a high enough recommendation. If you have a yearning to step out of the rat race and begin the journey back to a simple life of simple faith, this book is a great place to begin that journey.

Simply a good book

This book really encouraged me in my faith. It is a Bible study on the Sermon on the Mount and Jesus' central message. There is a true peaceful feeling in the writing. Swindoll urges us to get away from the busyness of modern life, even in the church, to focus on simple faith and building a relationship with God. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to be refreshed in their spirit.

Swindoll busts through the "rituals" into Simple Faith

This is an important book for all people who desire to live the Christian life without legalism. Swindoll relates in his simple fashion basic truths about who we are as Christians & that, although faith is not without its trials, it really is easy - it is us who tend to make things difficult, not God.

This Book Saved Me From a Lifetime of Distorted Mormon Faith

I was an active Mormon for 48 years. A Christian friend gave me this book and my life will never be the same. Thank God!!! Swindoll breaks down all of the performance-based, legalistic, earn-your-way-to-heaven creed of Mormonism (although not directed at Mormons) and explains faith in God in terms that even a child can understand. This is one of the first books that a Christian should give to a Mormon friend.

Oh! That we would all have "Simple Faith", good study.

A very good study for "home groups", sunday morning church study or independent study
