Silvia Buol trained in fine arts in Basel and contemporary dance in Zurich, becoming a master in both disciplines and realizing innovative projects at the intersection of fine and performance art from the outset of her career in the 1980s. As a visual artist, Buol works mainly in painting and drawing, as well as photography. Her characteristic large-format works reflect her rich experience with movement and space and express a constant dialogue with the movement and volume of her own body, as well as with the character and different textures of the papers she is using. Beautifully designed and produced, Silvia Buol: Watercolors and Drawings features for the first time a selection of twenty-five series of Buol's paintings and drawings. Superb oversized spreads and color illustrations feature the works and show smaller ones at actual size. Essays by art and architecture critic Konrad Tobler and by writer Martin Zingg complement the paintings and drawings.
