Silk & Velvet is a collection of poems that chronicle 'her' journey from being raised in a home plagued with an abusive father to finding love in the wrong person, which eventually reignites the mistrust and hatred for men she has been heaving along since childhood. But she doesn't give up when he leaves her body damaged and her soul stained, and instead turns her bitter experiences into silk and velvet to cover all the scars he has given her before departing for good. She ends up accepting her true self and proving her mother wrong: She didn't have to wait for a prince to buy her silk and velvet; her choices in life and self-love have woven her enough to last her a lifetime. However, she does give love another chance. This time life doesn't disappoint and further teaches her that love is there to add more beauty to life, not to complete it; life can only be complete with the right amount of self-love and acceptance. Silk & Velvet is for every woman who is resurrected with every single blow that is meant to shatter her and who wears the scars of her past like silk and velvet on the fabric of her wounded soul, accepting she is just as beautiful still.
