Loved this book!!

I have been waiting and waiting for this book to come out in paper, and I decided I did not want to wait any longer. I am so glad I didn't. I really loved this book. The first half was really interesting, not page turner but just interesting in watching the character try to come to terms with his ethics as a lawyer and his compassion as a man and father. Then something happens, and the book takes off and becomes a page turner. I really liked the characters, and I like the way the author wrote, very detailed, not in a hurry to tell his story, but in a really interesting way. I still am at odds in my own mind about the situation the main character found himself in, and even though I am not a lawyer, I understand why he did what he did. I admired him for that and felt for him and his dilemma. Anyway, great book, great characters, and I look forward to more from this author.

Legal thriller with lots of thrills.

This is not a courtroom drama but instead a thriller based on the concept of attorney client privilege and what might happen when a lawyer who invokes the privilege but others are not willing to accept that answer. Attorney client privilege often is not a popular concept in the public's opinion. In this book, an attorney who invokes that privilege to protect the identity of his client (who has admitted to a hit-and-run accident that killed a child) is pressured to give up his client's name first by law enforcement officers and then by the grieving mother herself. There are twists in the book that I don't want to spoil, but suffice it to say things get very interesting for the attorney. I found the book really interesting and exciting and have recommended it to another attorney friend.

Isaacson rivals Grisham

Being an avid John Grisham fan for many years, I can truly say that Ken Isaacson has written a book that would be right up there with Grisham's novels and may even surpass Grisham. Isaacson's style is more personal that Grisham's and this adds more to the readers intrigue of the story. I would recommend this to any and all readers.

Fantastic ending in a terrific debut novel

Justice is served with relish in Isaacson's taut, satisfying debut novel. The silent scream of a mother whose child has been killed by a hit and run driver sounds over the story as it unfolds, driving the action right into the picture perfect life of the novel's flawed hero. The ending smashes through the barriers imposed by today's legal system with a resounding vengence. Loved it! Can't wait for what's next from the talented Mr. Isaacson.

Praise for Silent Counsel!

I was sent an advanced reader's copy of Silent Counsel. It is a gripping tale of an attorney, Scott Heller, sworn by attorney-client privilege to keep the identify of his client confidential. This would not be so controversial except that his client is wanted for vehicular manslaughter in a hit and run accident where he killed a six year old boy. So, how do you keep silent when you really want to tell the truth. Not only that, what do you do when the mother of the murdered boy comes after you? This story was very hard to put down. I really felt for all the characters: Scott Heller's belief in the law and the protection of his client's identity. Detective Roy Kluge, who not only is investigating the crime, but has a personal connection to the victim's family. Michelle Dolan, the overworked Assistant Prosecutor who gets her hands tied by her boss. Stacy Altman, the mother of the slain boy. I really felt her anguish and her need for justice was palpable. Even, the client, whom I shall not name either, was believable. What do you do when you make a mistake that can cost you everything? That split second that you can not undo. Would you do the right thing? Can you even live with yourself? This was a great debut novel. There are many twists and turns that will keep you invested in the story. I've read a lot of crime novels and this is the first time the attorney's point of view is so well articulated. That is not surprising since Ken Isaacson is an attorney himself. I'm used to the cops view that all criminals are guilty until proven innocent. This is a worthwhile read and I'm definitely adding Ken Isaacson to my list of must read authors. - Jennifer
