Drawing on the experiences of three generations of her family in fifteenth-century Spain, the author presents a novel set in Moorish Andalusia about one family's struggle to maintain its Jewish identity under the Inquisition.
The story of the Moslem who marries a Jew and has a grandchild who becomes a Christian is very interesting in its own right. But what held my interest was the strength of its characters and also the knowledge that the information is based on truth. Not the best book, but certainly an interesting depiction of events during the Spanish Inquisition. The language is a mix of arabic, spanish and jewish terms sprinkled liberally with poetry.
