The author starts out by acknowledging the major divisions between the Evangelical/Fundamentalist camp and the Pentecostal/Charismatic camp over this subject. While acknowledging errors on all sides, his goal is to promote true unity by examining the Bible to stop the contention. The book is structured by taking an overview of different periods of time: Pre-Mosaic, Joshua through the Kings, Jesus himself, the early church etc. He asks the question: How did new believers come to faith? And he lets the Bible speak for itself. For me this had the gripping ability to make a clear case that God has a strong purpose behind using signs and wonders. While some Bible giants--Ruth for instance, came to faith without any known evidence of signs and wonders, the vast majority were brought to faith in God with some sort of demonstration of the supernatural power of God.The style is clear and readable. I couldn't put the book down and read it in one day. It will pull together scattered points that you've heard all your life.
