6-week Small Group Scripture Discussion GuideEncounter Jesus in a new way. Thought provoking questions on stories of people whose lives changed when they met him open our eyes to see who Jesus really is. Scripture stories come to life by exploring the events, the conversations, and the actions of Jesus with the people in his life and those who seek him: strangers and outcasts; his students/disciples; and Mary, his mother. Small group members or individuals enter into the stories by considering what the people in the stories said and did, what they may have felt, wanted, or feared. Beginning with the "Wedding at Cana" and ending with "Doubting Thomas," the weekly sessions move from the opening of Jesus' public ministry to the confusion and doubt after his resurrection. They look at the questions and concerns of his opponents, the Pharisees, and those of his followers. Weekly sessions include opening and closing prayers and an "Encounter Christ this Week" exercise to help participants deepen their experience of Jesus and better understand what he could mean in their lives. Designed to be helpful to those seeking to understand Jesus and the Church, Signs and Wonders has also been popular with those who have followed Jesus for many years.An individual reading Signs and Wonders will meet the person of Jesus, but the sessions are designed to build intentional small communities. Small group leader training would be ideal, but any group could begin meeting using the basic guidelines provided in the Signs and Wonders appendices on how to prepare; small group facilitation; prayer in the group; and group dynamics.
