Not True ASL!

The intro to the book says that American Sign Language is the language of the deaf in America and then it goes on to say that in the book they will teach us Signed Exact English... because it is easier for people who speak to learn. So basically we are too dumb to learn real ASL if we can hear. I have always had a reverence for books, information and stories are pretty much sacred, but this one I threw across the room. I am going deaf and I am plenty smart enough to learn REAL sign language phrases than you very much Mickey Flodin. I wish I could return it I hate it so much. Rude and useless to me.

Very good for hearing people who want to use sign to communicate

I am always looking for the book to learn signed English, and this is a very good book for that. As you know, ASL has its own specific syntax, and it makes us (hearing people) hard to learn ASL. Even though we want to learn how to communicate with deaf people and/or hard-to-hear people, it is very difficult for us to learn its syntax. However, sign language is not only ASL, but also signed English. I heard some deaf people are strict to use ASL, but not all people. We always want to communicate with deaf/hard-to-hear people, and they can accept us, too! Now, we can communicate with them! We can learn how to communicate with them with using regular English. Also this book is easy to carry. Most of daily-use phrases are in this book, so very useful for us. Now, I can enjoy communicating with my neibour who is deaf. This is a great experience for both of us.

signing everyday phrases

I had to get the book for a class I am taking but it came very quickly in time for my class and it is a wonderful tool for my class and homework

I learned alot...

This book is a good book for learning Basic Sign Language phrases. I have all the asl books by Mickey Flodin, and I think he's really great at explaining the signs, as well as the clear pictures. I will continue to buy his asl books for teaching sign language.
