Loren Dusk is the grandson of one of Signal City's most infamous supervillains: Doctor Dusk. Though he died many years ago, Doctor Dusk's notoriety has haunted Lore all his life -- he was bullied in school and has had trouble holding down a job. He's only able to make a living by selling off Doctor Dusk's personal effects to collectors of supervillain memorabilia.

There is one person interested in hiring Lore, however: Khayra Zommo, the granddaughter of an imprisoned Signal City gangster. She's starting a new hero-for-hire business called Signal Solutions, and she thinks Lore -- who secretly possesses superhuman powers -- would make an excellent addition to the team.

Lore accepts Khayra's offer. Just as he's starting to enjoy his new job, however, Signal City is rocked by a series of murders -- prominent crime figures are being assassinated all over town, and circumstantial evidence leads the police to suspect Signal Solutions. Hounded by gangsters, heroes, and police detectives, Lore and his new friends attempt to solve these murders...only to find themselves targeted by one of the most powerful supervillains Signal City has ever seen.
