Illustrations of a selection of the most common wild plants in the Los Angeles area, including some of their nutritional and medicinal usages. The paintings are executed using primarily plant-based pigments like beet, walnut, spirulina, turmeric and cayenne. This small book seeks to capture and honor the character of the plants, as well as the past and present of the area's Indigenous peoples. The designs are particularly inspired by Chumash rock paintings found in the southern California region. The book reflects upon the current state of our food systems, and how we can begin to reconnect with and balance our relationship with the natural environment.
