As a student and practitioner of management for over 15 years, my quest to seek solutions to some important problems faced by me, as a manager and an individual, pointed me towards search for a philosophy to guide me and seek solutions therein. Starting with the definition of philosophy which told me, "Philosophy is a study of problems which are ultimate, abstract and very general. These problems are concerned with the nature of existence, knowledge, morality, reason and human purpose,1" I started wondering, if philosophy had any practical relevance for me as an individual living in a society and as a manager leading a business organization. A quote by William Smellie (1791) which said "Were all men and women philosophers, the business of life could not be executed, and neither society, nor even the species, could long exist," prompted me to ask the following questions
