Jeremiah Johnson escapes police custody in Washington State to infiltrate McNairy Outfitters in Alaska to expose their illegal hunting activities and look for a missing wildlife agent. Abby, the outfitter's daughter, realizes Jeremiah is actually Billy Wade. He abandoned her at the alter eleven years earlier, killed his abusive stepfather, fled their Tennessee homeland, and changed his name. As Abby pursues Jeremiah with her shotgun, his stepfather's brother attacks him with a knife, and a bear mauls him. If Jeremiah survives, the wildlife agent he double-crossed will prosecute him, or ruthless hunters backing McNairy Outfitters will kill him.
