The Best Beatles Biography

"Shout! The Beatles In Their Generation" is a fantastic, and by far the best account of The Beatles. With new competition with Bob Spitz's "The Beatles", "Shout!" still stands strong, and the revweiws back that up. You'll learn everything you wanted to know about The Beatles and more. An accurate, and incredibly interesting biography of the biggest band ever. Also a great price. You have nothing to loose. A great book whether you've read a Beatles book before or this is your first. Highly Reccomended.

Required Text on the Syllabus for Beatles 101

If you read nothing more than this book and The Love You Make, you're pretty much set. I don't understand why Paul, probably my favorite Beatle, detests this book so much. This was the second book I ever read on the Beatles when I was sixteen years old, and when I re-read it twelve years later, having read another thirty or forty Beatles books in the interim, it only improved in my estimation. The story of The Beatles is inherently romantic and dramatic and Norman's narrative makes fantastic use of those qualities. The end of book is genuinely moving and sad. I hope Paul reconsiders his opinion. Even my private tour guide in Liverpool conceded this book's pretty much the one to read on the subject, although certainly many other wonderful books on the boys are out there. Highly, highly recommended.

An excellent Beatles biography

This is book is an amazing trip through the history of the group that took the world by assault and changed the rock and pop music forever. From their childhood to the break down of the group in 1970. From the Hamburg days to the Sgt. Pepper's psychadelic love summer. SIMPLY GREAT!

Great Book - REALLY Sad Ending

Even though I knew how the story ended, it really shook me when it reached its ineveitable conclusion. What caught me by surprise was the sheer joy I experienced by reading the beginning of the story...I'd always been somewhat familiar with the origins of The Beatles, but had never read the detailed version described in this book. I was swept away by the magical progression of this amazing story, and loved it so much that I was unconsciously hoping it would all end differently. The fact that it didn't was (stupidly, I know) dissapointing, and reminded me again of why I prefer fiction. Yeah, there's sad endings there too, but you don't always see them coming. When all is said and done, however, the really great thing is that the music will always remain...if the ending to this book bums you out, try the ending to the Abbey Road album instead...a much more pleasurable alternative.

Fasinating insight into the Beatles

This is an excellent book for both die hard Beatles fans and those who are simply interested in the phenomenon that swept the world in the 60s and still continues to exert influence over modern music today. The author frankly admits that he has never actually iterviewed any of the Beatles, but many great historical books have been written without access to their subjects, and in my opinion this has given him a unique view of the group's influence on the era, rather than a perspective from inside it. All the interesting things are there - Paul meeting John, the American tour, Apple, break up etc, and fasinating it is.If you like their music or damn them as madness from the 60s, the fact remains that they were hugely influential in areas ranging from pop music to advertising, and this book paints the picture very well.
