Columbia has been around for a very long time. We know that every town and city of any considerable age has more or less of the historic connected with it, and Columbia, one of the old towns of the state, can boast of its share. It's only natural that in the many years of existing that the town's history would accumulate, and over the years some stories would be forgotten. People who made a difference in the borough; the many Squires and Constables who fought tooth and nail to keep the town safe and moral for its citizens. Among the bravest, the Brakemen and Motormen of the Pennsylvania Railroad and Columbia Trolley line. The fearlessness of these men who worked in these deadly positions should forever be applauded. Throughout the town's history crime was everywhere. Murders and strange, unexpected deaths: known and unknown. Disasters happened daily, such as, the destruction of the bridge, floods, and race riots. Self-destruction: Columbia had more suicides than most places. People would travel from all over with the sole purpose of ending their lives in one of the town's many hotels or boarding houses. In Columbia, people would sometimes just disappear, never to be seen or heard from again.
