Beck predicts the source of the next wave of jobs

Downsizing. Unemployment. Job insecurity. The world is not coming to an end economically - it's just changing. This is an optimistic book that discusses in detail how we can actually benefit from this change. Beck's premise is that what makes us valuable in the New Economy is not our title or years of experience, but what we know. The "new economy" is comprised of such industries as computers and semiconductors; healthcare and medicine; communications and telecommunications; and instrumentation. These industries require "knowledge workers," those with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to adjust to rapid change. Beck contradicts the doom-and-gloomers that continue to predict how millions of workers will never work again. She shows us how the twenty fastest-growing industries in North America will lead the U.S. into an economic recovery that is stronger than we think. I recall reading articles in Fortune, Business Week, and Time magazines back in 1994 that discussed the problems of a changing workplace. However, these articles and other experts were as yet unable to predict the source of the next wave of jobs in a "de-jobbed" work environment. I think Beck's book just did.
