Faithful Shep

"Shep:Forever Faithful" written and dramatized by Stewart H. Beveridge and Lee Nelson is more than just a story about a dog. It's a story of a family, and of one man's struggle for redemption. Shep's story has inspired article after article in various publications throughout the years. "What makes Shep so special?" Sonny asks, near the end of the book. He has his own theory, and I happen to like it. But I think it's more than that. What makes Shep so amazing is that the simple, profound act of a dog waiting day by day for his master, can inspire individuals in so many different ways. Shep's story, as told in newspaper articles while he was still alive, inspired donations so that he could be fed. Many people wrote letters and offered to take him in. One man wrote a booklet about Shep and donated the proceeds to a school for deaf and blind children. Others have donated to that same school in Shep's name. In the end of the story, we see that Shep's vigil had special meaning for Sonny. And Shep's vigil will continue to move and inspire people in different ways. That's the beauty of a life well spent-be it the life of a man, woman, child or dog. The book itself focuses mainly on Shep and the Baker family. I found it interesting from the first page and never lost that interest. That I was touched by Shep's story is probably obvious by now. And that would be the beauty of a well written book.

Loved his loyalty and the sub-plots of the girl and her family

The sub-plots of the book were just as good as the main story. While the main story was about the dog, his faithfulness to his master and the different kinds of people he me along the way; the lives of the people were quite interesting. You wanted the best for the little girl and her mother. However, the story of the atonement intertwined with their lives made the book a late night, "can't put down", story - making sure the twists and turns came out all right, after all, for everybody!

Heart Warming

I could hardly put it down at night. I live close to Fort Benton and plan on going to see the place this spring.
