This Life Metaphor Masquerades as an American Love Story

One measure of important fiction is the extent to which the characters and plot stimulate the reader to examine life within a cultural context. Although Paul Cohn's Shelee and Me has been described as a book about "intimate discovery" and "an intellectual romp through the north woods," it has more serious and significant cultural themes. Paul Cohn conveyes in Shelee and Me an awareness of the complexity of relationships and communities. This book raises important questions about relationships--how we build them and how we subvert them. -Sara Goulde
