He fell in love with her from the first time he saw her when he was just 13. They spent the summer together. They were just across the alley from each other. The summer ended much too soon and hw had to go back home to his parents farm in Iowa. They had promised to write each other but being kids that was soon forgotten. They grew up and had forgotten about the feelings they had had at 13. His parents had moved to Illinois and he had came with them even though he was just weeks from leaving for the Army. they reconnected, she was everything he ever wanted. He asked her to marry him because he was going away to Basic Training in a few weeks and she agreed. But life sometimes gets in the way. Kids came and things got rough between them.
