I just have ot say that I just started reading this book and am very much enjoying it. My 9 year old daughte rplans to read it as well. My grandmother was going through some boxes of books she had and managed to come across She Came To The Valley. It was my moms and now my mom chose to give it to me. It is The Historical Special Edition 1972 and it is signed by Cleo Dawson. She even left a special note for my mom, expressing how much she liked my mom. I think this is truely awesome. Being a Valley native, Mission, and now raising my kids here I think it will let me, and them, know a bit more about the tales that my grandparents have shared with me over the times. My mom's and dad's parents live(d)down here. One was a ginner the other a farmer (also worked for the water district la joya school district). Sorry that I ahve ran off on a tangent about my family.... I am enjoying the book and plan to share it with my kids. I do hope that other people can enjoy it and see a part of history. Carina

I saw the movie at the Rialto theatre in Harlingen Tx. The theatre was put together by my great grandfather in the early part of the 1900's. I was not totally impressed by it but it got my curiousity going and I found a copy of the book. I was VERY impressed by the book and was hoping to find a new copy. It seemed to go along with all the old tales I had heard of the valley in it's beginning years.
She Came to the Valley

This book is about the early life of a pioneer family in the Lower Rio Grande Valley in south Texas. Her father was a doctor serving Valley residents. The most interesting facet of the story was the description of life during the early days of the Valley. It also is a tale of her life, loves and experiences as a women in the early 1900's. I heartily recommend reading this book. Although it is no longer in print, it may be found in many libraries.
