Sarah called Abraham lord, "lord" spelled with a lower case "l." She called Abraham lord because she knew he was her provider and protector. She did not see herself inferior and him superior over her. She saw herself as his help meet, his equal, his partner, and his confidante. She was his lover and his wife. Submission is the most natural expression of God's character. God would not have us to be slaves to Him or one another. Sarah loved and respected Abraham and he in return loved and respected her. "Wives Love and respect your husbands and husbands love your wives as unto the Lord." Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and He is saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; (Ephesians 5:21-25.)
