Share with us... Letters: Numbers: Words: Animals and Memories

My twenty-two year old copy of the book still haves the steak sauce stains and the VCR tape alphabet stickers on the cover from the nights when I use to sit in my father's lap and we would go over the book together... That of course was back in the eighties when I was a little boy. Now, I'm a twenty-four year old writer who majored in English in college. I can say with certainty that it was this book and my father's time and love that instilled in me a love, a respect, and a passion for books, words, and letters. I keep the book on the bookshelf next to my copies of T.E. Lawrence's Seven Pillars of Wisdom, The Norton Anthologies of English Literature, Moby Dick, Eugene Onegin, to name a few. Every time I flip through it every now and then, it brings me back to those simpler times and soft moments; the two main characters Alex and Zoe (my mother's first name), the vivid pictures, and the letters in large simple print. I hope that one day I will be able to sit down with my future children in a big comfortable chair and make memories that may shape their lives like the ones that my father and I made long ago that helped shape my life. I don't really remember too much of the trip to Disney World. But I do remember the countless nights that I spent with my father and this book.
