If you drifted away from the church because of some of the crazy things you were taught by nuns or your own parents, and you are longing to return to the love you remember, or the love that is taught by Christ (or other religions) then this book is for you.The Catholic faith has nourished me from seventh grade on. Aldworth begins his book with a memory of walking home from church at about the same age as my favorite memory of walking to church as the sun was setting on a Saturday evening in the crisp last days of fall! How could I ever leave such a church? His insightful words compel us to deepen our faith by looking at the things that may have hurt or confused us, or hindered our belief, in a different light, a mature light.Come grow your faith. Great Book

This is a wonderful book for anyone, but especially for those who grew up in a deeply Catholic family. Although written in the mid 80's, the book is not in any way dated. In part the discussion isn't dated because of the glacial pace of change in the Catholic Church, which Father Aldworth thoughtfully, fairly and lovingly criticizes. However, the real freshness of the book stems from its clarity of describing simply and powerfully the importance of questioning and searching for a healthy spirituality--truly an eternal struggle. One of the most compelling sections deals with our understanding of God. God, according to Father Aldworth, is many times way "too small". This is confirmed by the notions of God put forth by political and pseudo-political religious leaders all around the world who justify their actions in the name of God, citing the Bible or Koran. However, Father Aldworth also asks us to look inside of ourselves for how and when we call on God.
