An imam, a veteran of the Afghanistan war with Russia and the coalition forces of the United States, is coerced into spying for MI6. This information is not shared with the rest of the security services as his loyalty is questionable. His arrival in the United Kingdom coincides with an attack in London.
Chief Superintendent Smythe, the senior officer of Counter Terrorism Command, CTC, is placed in charge of the investigation. His investigation is frustrated by both MI5 and MI6, and every effort is made to discredit his investigation.
Smythe places the imam under surveillance and uncovers a well-organised and supplied, group of Jihadi cells operating in Bradford. The planners have links with Al Qaeda, Pakistan and Iraq.
The surveillance of the Imam takes them to Scotland and then Yorkshire and what he uncovers MI5 and MI6 are desperate to remain hidden
