Shadows of the Sounds - Book Three: Low Tide Grave
Twenty seven years ago, Kirsty Prentice disappeared from Havelock.
Her car was found in Picton. Some of her belongings were gone. She had talked about leaving Marlborough, and eventually almost everyone accepted the simplest explanation.
Kirsty had left.
Then violent weather tears apart an old waterfront retaining wall in the Marlborough Sounds and exposes human remains hidden behind it.
Senior Constable Jim Storey remembers Kirsty's disappearance. He remembers her frightened mother, the respected local family connected to her last known movements, and how quickly assumptions hardened into facts. Now, with Constable Mia Rangi beside him, Jim must reopen a case that has been sitting quietly in the community for nearly three decades.
The deeper they dig, the more they discover that nobody needed to invent evidence or create an elaborate conspiracy. They only needed to keep believing the same story.
But Kirsty never left.
And someone has spent twenty seven years making sure nobody discovered why.
Low Tide Grave is Book Three in the Shadows of the Sounds series, an atmospheric New Zealand crime mystery set among the isolated bays, small communities and hidden histories of the Marlborough Sounds.
