One violent storm. One impossible journey. One young man stranded in a world that should exist only in history.
Fin Eastwood expects his trip into the remote wilderness of northern Maine to give him something he and his father desperately need: time together, far from New Jersey and the grief that has followed their family for years.
Instead, everything changes on Eagle Lake.
When a terrifying storm tears across the water, Fin is thrown from their canoe and disappears beneath the surface. Injured, disoriented, and separated from his father, he awakens to a world he cannot explain a land without roads, machines, or anything familiar.
The wilderness is still Maine.
But the time is not his own.
Rescued by a man named Starwalk and taken into a community along the Wolastoq River, Fin must learn an entirely different way of surviving. As the months pass, the frightened outsider begins to change. He learns the ways of the forest, forms bonds that feel like family, discovers a powerful connection with a young woman named Hurit, and becomes increasingly drawn into the spiritual mysteries surrounding a small stone eagle known as Kisosen.
But beyond the peaceful village, danger is gathering.
Pajackok, a brutal and deeply disturbed warrior haunted by the mysterious Gitskog, leaves violence in his wake. As old rivalries intensify and the threat of war spreads across the land, the people Fin has come to love face destruction.
Soon, survival is no longer enough.
Caught between the world he came from and the world that has claimed his heart, Fin must decide who he has become and how far he is willing to go to protect the people he now calls his own.
