Shadows of an Ancient Sun
Dr. Elias Thorne spent his entire life unearthing the forgotten dead. He never expected to join them.
After a fatal fall during an excavation, an archaeologist awakens in a sprawling, subterranean purgatory but he isn't alone. For thousands of years, a terrified colony of ancient children has huddled in the dark ruins of their sunken city. Guarded by an anxious teenager and stalked by a mythical monster of shadow and teeth, the children are waiting for parents who will never come to rescue them. They don't know they are ghosts, and Elias must be the one to break their hearts in order to set them free.
Teaming up with Maia, the fiercely protective guardian, and Clea, a quiet little girl who already carries the heaviest piece of the truth, Elias must lead the lost children on a perilous expedition out of the dark. Using his knowledge of the ancient world, he guides them up the mountain to find the mythical threshold to the afterlife.
But the ruins are guarded by spectral predators and the paralyzing weight of the children's own fears. To get them home, Elias must teach them how to be brave. And as the threshold to the other side draws closer, Elias must face the ultimate question: can a man who spent his living years running from connection finally forgive his own regrets enough to cross the veil?
A breathtaking journey of healing, history, and hope, this is a story about finding the light in the darkest of places, and discovering that it is never too late to find your family.
