Shadow Art is me offering you a hot cup of tea at my kitchen table. I've set out a plate for you and I'm grinning 'cause I love your heart...Anyway, I'm here to start a conversation. You don't have to talk, but I'm hoping you will. It's a short-book of story-telling and poetry that explores the upside of our darkest days - in my case a shocking period of regression that motherhood triggered in me. But it's applications are much broader.I have a hunch that we've all got these kinds of stories - these secret parts of us that feel completely unacceptable...like something's wrong with us despite our serious efforts and good intentions. I have a hunch that as more and more of us get brave enough to show our underbellies, we'll discover that a massive front of human development is taking shape impressively under our mistakenly discouraged noses. I wrote Shadow Art with basically one thumb tapping the lines out on my iPhone in the night of my apartment, just outside of Charlotte. The poetry always emerged after countless hours of sitting and nursing with my infant daughter, when the rest of my body was tied up in supporting her. "I was diving from highs into lows - not because I was mood-swinging 'out of control,' but because I was brave enough and determined enough to figure those emotions out and bring them back into a more conscious me, a more powerful Self."I share these stories for what they truly are: necessary, nourishing, fruit-bearing experiences.
