A piece of the action

Shades of Retribution is one of those standout novels you'll realize years from now how good a read it was. Chandra Adams creates an exciting tale with a timely message dealing with the subject of interracial dating and the dire methods a group of college women use to increase their chances of eligible black men. Although her novel is divided into three parts, each section is beautifully mastered to describe each character's past histories and explains why there are consequences to every choice you make. I found Shades of Retribution an interesting literary work and a must read for everyone.

bold and first rate

One look at Shades of Retribution and you will be hooked! Ms. Chandra Adams in her novel has written a tale that hits too close to home with the main three characters Basilah, Meena and Kenya and how they deal with the subject at hand. Ms. Adams did an excellent job fleshing out each of the three main characters detailing their attitudes, background and ultimately their fates. I'm sure the methods used by the three to solve the single sista problem may be a bit much for some, but the plot moves along quickly and Ms. Adams's use of the conflict between Meena and Basilah throughout the book is enough to keep your interest. Excellent job by Chandra. I expect more great works from her in the future!

Black women take action

Shades of Retribution is about how strong black women deal with what seems to be a trend among black men who are more interested in white women. Hmmm. What to do about that? How to get them back on track, celebrating and loving good black women, is the drama in this book.

Shades of Retribution is a book that I enjoyed reading right down to the last word. It was hard to release after reading the very first page. Being a mystery, thriller, and a touch of romance novel, it captured and held my undivided attention until the end. Chandra Adams has an imagination with writing skills that are a winning combination. I don't normally read suspense-type books, but she's earned a new fan. You won't be disappointed if you give Shades of Retribution a heartfelt try. It's a testament to sisterhood.

LET THE DRAMA UNFOLD...

One could not predict the turn of events nor the outcome of this tale. "Shades of Retribution" lures you in so deeply that you become the proverbial "fly on the wall" and the story soon becomes your own. Chandra leaves just enough unsaid to leave you wanting to read even more about these characters - their past and their future. I would especially love to see their stories unfold on the big screen. This is a tremendous debut effort by Ms. Adams. I can't wait to see what she'll give us next!
