The Best Book I Read In Decades!

Somebody, everybody, please listen up! I have never wanted to do an on-line review before but I felt compelled to let you know that if you don't ever read another book, you have got to read this one. The salesperson at the local African-American book store where I purchase my books, recommended I read this book. She even said this was the best book she had read in a long time, and I know she reads a lot. The characters, storyline is so hypnotizing. When you think it can't get any better, it gets better! I was actually on the edge of my seat reading this book--just like at a movie theater and I have to say that this book should definitely be put on the big screen. I actually did not want this book to end. I must say Ms Bullard, for a debut, you have outdone the pros. It is gonna be hard to read another book after yours. Sooooooo, I will probably wait until you come out with another one.
This is an excellent debut novel!

This book is going on my top ten list of my all time favorite novels. I had to chuckle at some of the dissenting reviews. Is it so wrong to be both a mother and ambitious? Yes, Gwen was a bit on the extreme side with some of her actions and decisions. But haven't we all made misguided decisions a/k/a bad choices? Wouldn't this be a perfect world if things were either black or white and no shades of gray? THIS IS JUST A NOVEL, it's not representative of all African-Americans, just a few . . . and we all know some Gwens, Willettes and CCs in this world. If you want fluff, read Terry McMillan's, "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" if you want a solid TM novel, read her best work to date, "Disappearing Acts" . . . but I digress. In closing, we have been conditioned to expect books and movies to have a happy ending . . . a positive resolution. A book doesn't have to be positive, because the World isn't always positive, people aren't always positive, etc., etc. Sometimes there are no happy endings! For individuals that think her novel is TOO MUCH, there are Christian-centered novels currently available on the market, you may enjoy reading them more. Again, Ms. Bullard has written a stunning debut novel, I eagerly await her next effort.
Linda "You go girl!"

It took exactly three days for me to read this book. Being a Texan, it was refreshing to read a novel that was set in a good ole' Texan town. Not bad, not bad at all for the first time around. I noticed most of the reviews for this book were at the extreme ends of the spectrum. So with that in mind I say "if you ain't up setting someone, you ain't livin!" Keep on keepin on Linda and get the the next book to us soon!
