Changing Times in Law Enforcement

Chief Joe Pelkington brings an inside look at the changes that took place in Law Enforcement during the turbulent "60s. His unique perspective gives the reader a feeling of being on patrol with Officer Pelkington. From the grittiness of domestic violence calls to the dark humor of the cops on the beat, one feels like he is riding shotgun with Pelkington. Chief Pelkington worked his way to the top of a large agency (Tampa Police) through his fierce determination to do it right and treat those under him with dignity and respect. He also lead a small beach community's police department into the modern era using the lessons he had learned in Tampa. I know because he was my division commander in 1980 at the Tampa Police Dept. He was well liked and was one of the fairest leaders I ever had the pleasure to work with. Shades of Blue is an interesting read for any Law Enforcement Officer and especially for one who has never been "on the street". It provides an insiders look at a profession and the men and women who chose it. Thomas J. (T.J.) Pinta Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (Retired)
