Ismail Jamili was born in Southern Azerbaijan (Iran) in 1953. Although his mother language, Azerbaijani Turkish, is the predominant language in the region, the Iranian government has banned its use in schools. As a result, nearly 30 million Turks in Iran have been deprived of their language and culture. The poems in this book are about a better future for the people of Southern Azarbaijan.
